Chief Dan George

Chief Dan George (* July 24, 1899; † September 23, 1981 in Vancouver ) was an actor and chief of the Tsleil - Waututh nation on Burrard Inlet in British Columbia ( Canada).

After attending school, he earned his living by changing professions, such as a dock worker, school bus driver or construction worker before he received first roles on television since the late 1960s. His breakthrough celebrated with the supporting role of Chief Old Lodge Skins in Arthur Penn's Wild West movie Little Big Man (1970). For his second feature film won Chief Dan George the praise of critics and the prices of the New York Film Critics Circle, the National Society of Film Critics and the Laurel Award, while in the Golden Globe and Oscar award each against John Mills, he ( Ryan's Daughter ) had left behind. Although he was active as an actor until his death in 1981, he could not build on the initial success.

In addition to his acting career had Chief Dan George also wrote and published several books, including My Heart Soars, My Spirit Soars and You Call Me Chief: Impressions of the Life of Chief Dan George.
