Chilkat River

View of the Mountains on the Chilkat River Takshanuk

It rises on the Chilkat Glacier on U.S. soil, makes a 27 -km-long arc through Canada and then flows towards the south again through Alaska. From Wells, where the Tsirku River empties into the Chilkat, Haines Highway runs parallel to the river and accompanied him to his long-drawn- delta at the mouth in the Chilkat Inlet, part of the Lynn Canal.

In the lower reaches of the Chilkat River lies the sanctuary Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve with the largest bald eagle population of the earth.

Is named the river after the Chilkat Indians, a group of Tlingit.
