Chinese submarine 361

The submarine No. 361 was a submarine of the People's Republic of China. It belonged to the Ming class, and was built in the 1960s. The boat was 76 feet long, displaced 2,113 tons submerged water and had a top speed of 18 knots. It had six torpedo tubes in the bow and two in the rear.

The ship was in a military maneuver on 16 April 2003 to the east of Neichangshan Islands, as there was a technical problem. The 70 crew members died of gas poisoning. The ship was discovered by fishermen. It was later towed to the port Lushun.

In June 2003, the demotion of two admirals and eight officers in connection with the incident was announced. The specified as grounds management and communication errors created the suspicion boat 361 was possibly mistakenly destroyed in the course of a weapons test.
