Chirundu, Zambia

Chirundu is a border town in the Southern Province of Zambia, and lies at an altitude of 347 m above sea level. M. on the Zambezi River, which forms the border with Zimbabwe. The Kariba Dam is located about 65 km upstream.

Chirundu is now closed by the Otto Beit Bridge and the new Chirundu bridge with the same name in Zimbabwe connected and thus lies on the major direct road link between Harare and Lusaka.

During the British colonial rule was on this stretch of the Great North Road, which should be a part of the Cape to Cairo road to the ideas of Cecil John Rhodes.

The place is under the influence of the great, vast border station, waiting in the numerous trucks on their clearance.

The attractions of both Chirundu are the Zambezi, fishing after up to 15 kilograms Tigersalmler that offer several safari tour, elephants and baobab trees.

From Zambia Chirundu from the Lower - Zambezi National Park is accessible from the Zimbabwean Chirundu from the south of the Zambezi opposite Mana Pools National Park. North of the river is also the Chirundu Fossil Forest, in the 150- million year old remains of trees are found.
