Chlopsidae

Chlopsis bicolor

The Chlopsidae ( Gr. " chloa " - "as" = green, " ops " = similar; Syn: Xenocongridae ) are a family of fish from the order of eel-like ( Anguilliformes ). The small, only eleven to 42 inches long expectant animals live in the tropical and subtropical Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean.

Features

You do not have scales, the species of the genera Chlopsis and Robinsia also lack pectoral fins. The gill openings are reduced to small, round, side openings. The lateral line consists of only a few pores on the head. The nostrils are located at the rear moved down and lie (not for Kaupichthys nuchalis ) in the lips. The fish have 100-150 vertebrae.
