Chlorophytum inornatum

Chlorophytum is a genus of the subfamily of Agave ( Agavoideae ). The botanical name of the genus is derived from the Greek words for chloros, yellowish green 'or' pale green 'as well as for phyton, plant ' and refers to the leaves of some taxa.

Description

Vegetative characteristics

The species of the genus Chlorophytum are perennial, evergreen or deciduous geophytische herbaceous plants. Their different roots are mostly succulent or occasionally bulbous. The creeping rhizome is often covered with old leaf bases. The leaves are arranged in rosettes or tufted. They are rarely reduced to a single sheet or almost two lines. Your bald to hairy leaf blade is flat and oblong to linear. The leaf margin is often fringed.

Inflorescences and flowers

The terminal inflorescence is racemose or paniculate. The peduncle is covered with bracts, divided the flower stem near its center. The white to blue perianth is star-shaped, urn -shaped or bell-shaped rare. The six tepals oblong remain dried up, the midrib darker. The outer tepals are narrower than the inner tepals. There are six stamens present. Their stamens are glabrous or verrucose, the anthers basifix and intrors. The sedentary or short -stalked, triangular ovary contains 6-30 ovules arranged in two rows. The stalk round pen is smooth and the apical scar tiny.

Fruit and seeds

The fruits are three-lobed or triangular lokulizide capsule fruits. They contain flat, rounded, black, shiny seeds.

Systematics and distribution

The genus Chlorophytum is in Africa, widespread in Madagascar and Asia in forests, grasslands and Karoo vegetation.

The first description of the genus Chlorophytum was made in 1807 by John Bellenden Ker Gawler. The type species of the genus Chlorophytum inornatum.
