Ch’oe Yun
Ch'oe Yun ( born July 3, 1953 in Seoul) is a South Korean author of the present and Professor of French contemporary literature at Sogang University in Seoul.
Life
Ch'oe Yun, whose real name Ch'oe Hyon -mu is studied at Sogang University Korean literature and received from this in 1976 a Bachelor's degree, and in 1978 the degree of Master of Arts. In 1983 she gained after several years abroad in France doctorate doctorate ( Doctorat de 3ème Cycle) from the Université de Provence, DEA in Aix -en- Provence and Marseille. Since March 1984 she pauses professor of contemporary French literature at Sogang University.
Literary Ch'oe joined in 1978 by the critical essay soseoreui euimi Gucho bunseok in the journal Literary Thought ( Munhak Sasang ) in appearance, but published her first work of fiction, the story of the Gwangju Massacre Silence falls a flower ( jeogi, sori eopsi hanjeom kkonnipi jigo ) until ten years later, in 1988 in the literary magazine Literature and Society ( munhakgwa Sahoe ).
Ch'oe uses in her stories a lot of modern literary techniques, such as a mixture of fantasy and reality, different perspectives and versions of the same process or time- parallel narrative structures. Thematically, Ch'oe often moves in the field of social upheavals of modern Korea - the consequences of the Korean War, the division of the country, the period of military dictatorships - one for which there can be no more heroes mostly from the perspective of an outsider, . Ch'oe reveals thus a sensitive literature as a social indicator of past, tumultuous decades of the country, or as they said themselves: " If one wants to truly understand the Korean literature, one must probably climb a unique time machine, there's nowhere else in the world. The Korean literature is how the Earth's atmosphere, highly compressed. In the whole world there is no country which, like Korea, has gone through all stages of modernity and modern literature in such a short time. "
In addition to her work as a literary figure and professor committed to Ch'oe Yun for the dissemination of Korean literature through translations into French, as well as social issues through participation in interdisciplinary conferences and congresses, such as the Women's World 2005 Congress of Ewha Womans University Seoul.
