Chris Ballance

Chris Ballance (* July 7, 1952 in Worcester ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish Green Party.

Life

Ballance attended Alderman Newton Boy 's School in Leicester and Reigate Grammar School in Surrey. He then studied at the University of St Andrews. Over the years he went to different activities. He worked in a non-profit organization for the mentally disabled, as part -time teacher at the University of Glasgow and had his own bookstore. He is also an author and playwright.

Political career

1994 Ballance candidate for the District Council of Strathclyde, but received only about 5.7 % of the vote. In the first Scottish Parliament elections in 1999 Ballance went to the Scottish Green Party. However, it is not applied for a direct mandate of a constituency, but was set to the first rank of the Regional Evaluation of the Green Party for the election Region South of Scotland. Since the Greens in this election only about 5.4 % of the votes were given, they could not send candidates in this election region in the newly created Scottish Parliament. In the 2003 parliamentary elections, the Greens increased their vote share slightly larger and Ballance received First prize at the Regional Evaluation and pulled a mandate for the first time in the Scottish Parliament. Led also in the following parliamentary elections in 2007 Ballance the list of the Greens in the election region, but lost their mandate as a result of the election results. At the end of the legislative period Ballance thus resigned from the Parliament.
