Chris Ethridge

Chris Ethridge ( born February 10, 1947 in Meridian, Mississippi, † April 23, 2012 ) was an American guitarist and bassist. He was the co-founder of the two country-rock bands International Submarine band and Flying Burrito Brothers.

Life

Chris Ethridge was born in 1947 in Meridian, Mississippi. Before he moved to California at the age of 17, he had already played in several bands. In California he met the guitarist Joel Scott Hill know and joined with him in Gram Parsons ' International Submarine band. Parsons left the band then for The Byrds, before he then Ethridge 1968, the Flying Burrito Brothers founded. After only one album, Flying Burrito Brothers, Ethridge left the band and toured as an instrumental musician for Emmylou Harris, Clarence White and Sneaky Pete Kleinow. Parsons died in September 1973 and Ethridge joined the band Docker Hill Boy, which already played Joel Scott Hill. Together with Sneaky Pete and Gib Guilbeau formed up again as the two Flying Burrito Brothers, and took in 1975 on the album Flying Again.

Also this band left Ethridge already after one year, was henceforth a studio musician and has collaborated among others with Johnny Winter, Ry Cooder and Randy Newman. He also went with Willie Nelson about eight years on tour.

Ethridge, who was married and had two sons and a daughter, died of pancreatic cancer.
