Chris Sawyer

Chris Sawyer (born 1969 in Maryland ) is a programmer of computer games, mainly known for his two games with names RollerCoaster Tycoon and Transport Tycoon. He began his career in the computer game industry in 1983, when he programmed for the Memotech MTX home computer and then for the Amstrad CPC. After that, he was responsible for many ports of Amiga games on the PC.

Career

Sawyer's first major success was the traffic simulation Transport Tycoon, which was released in 1994 for the PC. A worldwide success he succeeded in 1999 with the theme park manager game Rollercoaster Tycoon. Unusually, Sawyer the game completely programmed except for the sound alone. In 2002 he released a second part, which not only contained detail improvements, but also an editor and new attractions.

In September 2004, Atari released the unofficial successor to Transport Tycoon " Locomotion ", the graphics engine used by RollerCoaster Tycoon and otherwise trying to stay close to the original from 1994. Beginning of November 2004 appeared the third part of the RollerCoaster Tycoon series, which represents the action in full 3D, in which Sawyer, however, only had an advisory role. The programming took over the company Frontier Developments Ltd. Elite developer David Braben.
