Christian Broecking

Christian Broecking ( born June 5, 1957 in Flensburg ) is a German musicologist, music critic and sociologist has chosen to live in Berlin.

Work

Broecking studied at the Free University of Berlin sociology, musicology and journalism; In 2011 he received his doctorate from the Technical University of Berlin Dr. phil. about the social relevance of African-American music. He is an author, columnist for daily newspapers (taz, Tagesspiegel), and journals ( Jazz thing ) and producer of radio features. He was a founding program director of Jazz Radio Berlin (1994-1998) and editorial director of Classic Radio in Frankfurt am Main ( 2000-2003).

Broecking was a lecturer in musicology and music journalism in Frankfurt, Heidelberg and Berlin; at Winterthur Institute of Contemporary Music, he teaches jazz history. In 2007 he was a speaker at the conference " Jazz in the Global Imagination" at Columbia University, New York. He also worked as a consultant for the Darmstadt contributions to jazz research. He has worked as a jazz juror for the Prize of the German Record Critics.

In 2004, the Broecking Broecking publishing, which he also directs. In 2012 he exhibited in the Zellermayer gallery in Berlin jazz photographs. Broecking curated and directed the international conference "Lost in Diversity - A Transatlantic Dialogue on the Social Relevance of Jazz", which took place in 2012 at the Heidelberg Center for American Studies. 2013 led Broecking the international conference "Vision, Perception, Friction: How Jazz Became Art and Attack ( ed) - A Transatlantic Dialogue " at the Heidelberg Center for American Studies.

When intestinal Jazzforum 2013 lectured Broecking "Not Black enough? Debating jazz in the post- Black timespace.
