Christian III, Count of Oldenburg

Earl Christian III. of Oldenburg ( documentary attested in 1269 in Oldenburg, † 1285 in Oldenburg) was Count of Oldenburg. His parents were Johann I von Oldenburg and Rixa of Hoya.

Life

Christian III. was first documented in 1269 as " Dei gratia comes in Aldenborch ", from 1272, his brother Otto II appears as co count's certificates.

In the initial phase of his reign the Ministerialenaufstand the knight Robert Westerholt falls. The rebels invaded in the course of the war in the city of Oldenburg, but which was inserted from the Christian, who defended the Castle of Oldenburg, on fire, so that the attacker neither protection nor food vorfanden and withdrew unsuccessful. In the battle in the Tungeler march which they pursued Graf then won a decisive victory, which, among other nobles, Robert was taken prisoner. Christian III. is in the contemporary sources described as peace-loving and friendly church ("... the peasants lived in peace and total calm " ), piety knew how to unite with happy life ("... loved the wine ").

From his marriage with Jutta von Bentheim three sons are demonstrated: about Christian nothing is further known John II succeeded his father after his death as Count of Oldenburg, Otto was in 1344 Archbishop of Bremen.
