From 1883 to 1887, he studied at the Munich Academy, where had enforced a new style of painting since the mid-19th century, which led to a school of plein air painters. 1890 following his first public exhibition at the Munich International Art Exhibition, two years later, he became a founding member of the Munich Secession and exhibits regularly until 1916. In 1895 he founded a private art school, 1899-1905, he worked as a drawing teacher at the Women's Academy of the Munich artists association, and in 1905 Landsberg is professor of mechanical drawing at the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts. Style and Technology

At the beginning of its development painted Landsberger realistic studies in a dark palette. After 1890 got his pictures, among utter abandonment of local colors, with attached lights and broad brushstrokes, more brightness. Christian Landsberger is considered a pioneer of the German open-air painting.

Since 1919, Landsberger discovered the etching itself, with which he preferred religious motifs executed.

Topics

Landsberger painted, among others, in the valley of the Upper Danube ( there especially in and near Gutenstein ), in the Black Forest, the Swabian Alb, Lake Constance, at the Ammersee, in Norway, on the island of Sylt and on the Dutch North Sea coast. He painted preferred outdoor motifs, but also still lifes, interiors, allegorical and religious subjects are among Landsberger works. From 1893 to 1915 he dealt with the theme of " bathers boys ".
