Christian Mayerhöfer

Christian Mayerhöfer ( born June 16, 1971 in Mainz ) is a former German hockey player and Olympic champion.

Mayerhöfer began his career at Dürkheimer HC, with whom he won at the German Championship in field hockey in 1992 and 1993. From 1997 to 2000, he won the championship four times in indoor hockey and 2000 he won the European Cup Indoor Hockey. In 1995 he won the German Cup with his team in field hockey, 1996, he won the European Cup Winners' Cup.

1992 debuted the left-back in the German national hockey team, after winning the boys team took third place at the European Championship. He was re-nominated for the Olympic team in 1992 and used in a game, as a member of the team, he was also awarded the gold medal. In the coming years he was a regular player of the national team. In 1994, he finished fourth at the World Championships in 1995 he was European champion and participated in the victory in the FIH Champions Trophy. In his second Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, he finished fourth. This was followed in 1997 victories at the European Indoor Championships and the Champions Trophy, third place in the 1998 World Cup and another victory at the European Championships in the open in 1999. 2000 he occupied with the national team to second place at the Champions Trophy and fifth at the Olympic games in Sydney.

Overall Mayerhöfer played in 315 international matches, 12 of them in the hall. He replaced Volker Fried from the most-capped player and completed the first German hockey player over 300 internationals. Bjorn Michel was his successor as most-capped player.
