Christian of the Palatinate-Zweibrücken (1752–1817)

Christian Freiherr von Zweybrücken (* November 20, 1752, † October 25, 1817 in Munich) was first a French, Prussian and then later Bavarian officer, last general of the infantry.

Life

Zweybrücken was the son of Duke Christian IV (Pfalz - Zweibrücken) from his morganatic marriage with Raised to the Countess of Forbach Maria Anna Camasse. He was initially Count of Forbach called and came into effect on April 20, 1768 as sous- lieutenant in the royal French infantry regiment Royal Deux -Ponts one. He was there already promoted to Captain, July 3, 1772 Lieutenant Colonel on April 16, 1771. He received pursuant to a certificate issued by Duke Christian IV on March 30, 1775 document the hereditary term " Zweybrücken ". By decree of King Louis XVI. the title of Marquis was awarded to him. On March 10, 1788, he was Maréchal de Camp and Colonel Propriétaire. With the French Revolution, he stepped out of the French war services of, renounced the title of Marquis and received on 31 January 1792 by Count Palatine Charles II Augustus the title of " Freiherr von Zweybrücken ".

Zweybrücken effective January 1, 1792 in the Prussian service, was hired with patent as a major general and took part in the campaigns against France 1794-97. Be allowed to occur after permission in Electoral Bavarian services, he was appointed on 24 July 1799 Lieutenant-General à la suite of infantry. He was promoted on 30 October 1799 real Lieutenant General appointed provincial commander of the Rhine Palatinate.

With Army command on 1 March 1806 he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Military Order of Max Joseph Order.

In 1808 Zweybrücken was appointed Privy Council. On 8 January 1811 he received his promotion to general of infantry.

He was married to Adelaide -Françoise de Béthune - Pologne (1761-1823) from the House Béthune, whom he had geehelicht 1783 in Versailles. The couple had the following children:
