Christian, Prince of Nassau-Dillenburg

Christian of Nassau- Dillenburg ( born August 12, 1688 Castle Dillenburg; † August 28, 1739 in Strasbourg Ebersbach ) was Prince of Nassau- Dillenburg. He was the last of his line, which began in 1606 with Georg von Nassau- Dillenburg.

His parents were Henry of Nassau- Dillenburg (1641-1701) and his wife Princess Dorothea Elisabeth von Liegnitz ( 1646-1691 ).

Life

After the death of his parents, his older brother William took over the upbringing. From a young age, Christian and his Hofmeister Gustav von Moltke were sent to study at the University of Leiden, where he was enthusiastic about very much for mathematics. In March 1708 he became a major in the Infafanterie in Dutch services, received on April 16, 1711 the patent as a colonel and fought in the War of Spanish Succession with distinction against the French. After the Peace of Utrecht in 1713 he returned to Germany and resided in Hadamar. With the death of Franz Alexander von Nassau- Hadamar in 1711 the local line Nassau- Hadamar had died and the land was divided among the remaining nassauern. After the death of his brother William in 1724, Christian took over the Dillenburger possessions. In 1731 died with Frederick William II of Nassau- Siegen from the Reformed branch of the House of Nassau-Siegen. Although First Immanuel was Ignaz von Nassau-Siegen (1688-1735) there as administrator ( his older brother Wilhelm Hyacinth was already deducted in 1707 ) but in 1735 it finally fell to Nassau- Dillenburg and Nassau- Dietz. Since now only the lines Dillenburg and Dietz were present, Christian joined as head of the Ottonian line and Karl August von Nassau -Weilburg from the Walramischen line in 1736 to avoid a contract of inheritance to a further fragmentation of the country.

A few years later Christian died on a hunting trip in the Official House of Strasbourg Ebersbach on a Stickflußanfall. His possessions were now on William IV of Nassau- Dietz and Wilhelm Hyacinth of Nassau- Siegen. This was already old and as always in need of money and sold his share on 17 February 1742 Wilhelm against a pension of 40,000 thalers. In 1743 he died.

He was a Knight of the Order of St. Hubertus.

Family

Christian married in 1725 Isabella Charlotte of Nassau- Dietz ( 1692-1757 ), the daughter of Prince Henry Casimir of Nassau- Dietz. The marriage remained childless.
