Christian Vander (musician)

Christian Vander ( born February 21, 1948 in Nogent -sur -Marne, Val- de -Marne ) is a French drummer, pianist, composer and singer and is known magma mainly because of its band. In addition, he performs as a soloist or with his Christian Vander Trio in the Jazz music genre. Christian Vander is the adoptive son of the French jazz pianist Maurice Vander.

Career

From a young age he met world-renowned jazz greats such as Elvin Jones and Kenny Clarke, due to performances of his mother. Chet Baker finally gave the 13 -year-old Vander his first drum set. In Italy, Vander operated for several years as a jazz musician. Back in France, he played back together with Mal Waldron, Chick Corea and Dave Holland. In 1969 he founded Magma, his best-known project to date.

Style

He is known for his virtuoso drumming as well as for his often improvised vocals. As a composer he was influenced by rock, jazz, classical or opera. Vanders music can be roughly described as progressive rock, but his style is so unique that it falls under its own category: Zeuhl. (What about "Music of the all-encompassing power" means in Kobaianisch, an artificial language which developed Vander for his band Magma. )
