Nogent-sur-Marne

Nogent -sur -Marne is a commune with 31 795 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Val -de- Marne in the Île- de -France region; it is the administrative center for the district of Nogent -sur -Marne and the canton of Nogent -sur- Marne.

Nogent -sur -Marne is located in the Paris Basin between Fontenay -sous -Bois in the north, Le Perreux -sur -Marne to the east and Joinville- le -Pont and Champigny -sur -Marne to the south, on the banks of the Marne and on the eastern edge of the Bois de Vincennes, thus adjacent to Paris. By the end of the 19th century belonged to the city of Nogent yet today's neighboring town of Le Perreux.

History

Gregory of Tours reported 581 of a Novigentum as the preferred residence of the Merovingian king Chilperic I. The origin of the name remains unclear.

In the Middle Ages existed in Nogent a number of domains:

  • The Château de Plaisance ( 13th century), whose only rest on the grounds of the local hospital in the Rue de Plaisance is 30.
  • The Château de Beauté -sur -Marne (14th century), the King Charles VII and his mistress Agnes Sorel gave which was demolished in 1626 by Cardinal Richelieu.

On 14 May 1912, the last two members of the Bonnot gang Valet and Garnier were taken with a large contingent of police and military in Nogent -sur- Marne.
