Fresnes (Val-de-Marne)

Fresnes is a French commune in the department of Val -de- Marne. The town in the Ile- de -France is located 11.2 km south of the city center of Paris. In it is the third largest prison in France ( Maison d' arrêt de Fresnes ), which was used to arrest and torture of resistance fighters and political prisoners, among other things in the Second World War the Gestapo. Name

The name Fresnes was first mentioned in a papal bull of 1152 as Fraxinum. The name comes from the medieval Latin fraxinus (French frêne, " ash " ), due to the ash, which covered the area of Fresnes at that time.

Transport

In Fresnes itself, there is no metro, RER or Transilien station; However, the site is operated by the RATP bus. The nearest RER train stations Parc de Sceaux, La Croix de Berny and Antony on the RER line B and Chemin d' Antony on the RER line C, all in the neighboring village of Antony.
