Christopher C. McGrath

Christopher Columbus McGrath ( born May 15, 1902 in New York City; † July 7, 1986 ) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1949 and 1953 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Christopher Columbus McGrath attended parochial schools. He graduated in 1921 at the Clason Military Academy in the Bronx and in 1924 at Fordham University School of Law in New York City. After receiving his license to practice law in 1927, he began practicing in New York City. Between 1928 and 1935 he sat in the New York State Assembly. In 1935 he was elected Judge of the Municipal Court of New York City. In 1945 he was re-elected for a ten -year term, but resigned on December 31, 1948 back from his judge post.

Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1948 for the 81st Congress McGrath was in the 26th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of David M. Potts on 4 January 1949. He was re-elected once. Since he gave up for reelection in 1952, he retired after January 3, 1953 from the Congress.

He was elected in 1952 for a fourteen- year term as judge of the Guardianship and Probate Court of Bronx County and re-elected in 1966. He was also a former faculty member at Fordham University School of Law. He lived until his death on July 7, 1986 in New York City.
