Christopher Cassidy

Christopher Chris John Cassidy ( born January 4, 1970 in Salem, Massachusetts) is an American NASA astronaut.

Military career

Cassidy is a member of the United States Navy and its Special Forces United States Navy SEALs. Among other things, he was trained for use with the miniature submarine SEAL Delivery Vehicle and spent over 200 hours underwater. In the fall of 2001 he was ordered to Afghanistan. For his combat missions there, he received several awards.

Spaceman activity

On 6 May 2004 Cassidy was selected by the NASA space agency and trained mission specialist.

On 11 February 2008 he was nominated for the crew of mission STS -127. During this flight Japanese modules were brought to the International Space Station ISS. The launch took place on 15 July 2009, the landing on July 31, 2009. Cassidy led this three spacewalks with a total of over 18 hours of continuous through.

Cassidy is Flight Engineer of ISS Expeditions 35 and 36 The start of the Soyuz TMA- 08M on 28 March 2013. On May 11, Cassidy exchanged with Thomas Marshburn at an unscheduled EVA from a Pumpensteuerungsbox the solar module P6. Two other EVAs he led on 9 July and 13 July, together with Luca Parmitano by. In the second, a larger amount of water in Parmitanos helmet collected, so that the work was completed ahead of schedule. In the airlock Parmitano could neither see nor hear, because he penetrated water in eyes, ears and nose, so that he was completely dependent on Cassidy. The return to Earth on 11 September 2013.

Private

Cassidy is married and has three children.
