Christopher Koch

Christopher John Koch, AO (* July 16, 1932 in Hobart, † September 22, 2013 in Richmond ( Tasmania ) ) was an Australian writer.

Life

Koch was born in Hobart, Tasmania. From 1946 to 1950 he attended various schools, the Clemens College, St. Virgil's Christian Brothers College and the Hobart State High School. Early age of 16, he worked as a photographer and cartoonist for the Hobart Mercury. From 1951 to 1954 he studied literature at the University of Tasmania. He lived for some time in London, but returned to Australia in order to escape the British military service. He then worked for almost 10 years .. as a producer and newscaster for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Sydney

Koch published his first novel in 1958, The Boys in the Iceland. Followed in 1965 Across the Sea Wall. Since 1972, Koch worked exclusively as a writer, he went back to Tasmania for it first, but he was still alive in many other places over the years thereafter.

His most famous work is the novel A Year of Living Dangerously ( engl. The Year of Living Dangerously ) from 1978, which was filmed in 1982 by Peter Weir starring Sigourney Weaver, Mel Gibson and Linda Hunt in the lead roles ( A Year of Living Dangerously ). Cooking is thereby also co-wrote the screenplay called, even though he had a falling out with Weir, among others, on the occupation of a male role in the novel by Linda Hunt .. Literary recognition Koch received for his novels The Doubleman (1985) and Highways to a War (1996 ) for which he received the Miles Franklin Award.

For his services to Australian Literature 1995 he received the title of Officer of the Order of Australia.

In summer 2012, a Krebserkranunkung Koch was diagnosed, the original Progronose was that he had only to live a few weeks, but he lived to see the release of his highly acclaimed last novel Lost Voices in September 2012 and died now one year after the diagnosis of his disease.

Koch was married twice, from his marriage to his first wife has a son the classical guitarist and music teacher Gareth Koch.
