Chwarszczany

Chwarszczany ( German: Quartschen; Latin: Quarcio Marchicus ) is a Polish village in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship Mysliborski powiat.

Geography

The place is located in the former Brandenburg Neumark at the Mietzel (Polish Mysla ).

History

From 1232 the town was the seat of the Knights Templar. The Order was given to the village Quartschen by Duke Henry I of Silesia. A Commandery in Quartschen has survived from 1282. Not known at what point was the Commandery. 1291 the Commandery was Quartschen residence of the provincial champion Bernhard von Eberstein ( 1291 ), a son of Ludwig I of Everstein. A provincial chapter was held here.

1318 was the Commandery Quartschen along with their ownership of the Order of St. John. The Coming of St. John was later converted into a royal Domänenamt. Furthermore, there was a distillery and a water mill in Quartschen. Until 1945 the village was in the Frankfurt district of Königsberg (Neumark ), administrative region in the province of Brandenburg.
