Cipolletti

Cipolletti is a city on the west by the department of General Roca, Rio Negro in the southwestern Argentina. The city lies at the intersection of state highways 40 and 151, together with the capital of the province of Neuquen and Plottier forms Cipolletti the agglomerate of Neuquen - Plottier - Cipolletti.

Etymology

Cipolletti is named after the Italian engineer César Cipolletti, who studied the water resources of the area.

History

1881 founded the General Lorenzo Vintter the Fort Confluencia. The city was founded on October 3, 1903 as Colonia Lucinda by Colonel Fernández Oro. In 1909 she was renamed Cipolletti according to the local train station.

Population

According to estimates by the INDEC, the population increased from 68 348 inhabitants ( 1991) to 75 078 inhabitants in 2001.
