Citroën Xantia

Citroen Xantia (1993-1998)

The Xantia (type X ) is a model of the automaker Citroën was presented in the spring of 1993, replacing the Citroën BX. The estate version of Break expanded the range from August 1995.

The car was built from March 1993 to October 2001 in France. The sedan was produced in the Citroën factory Rennes in Brittany, the break in the French body specialist Heuliez in Cerizay. Until September 2010, a simply equipped Xantia 1.8i 16V version of Iran at SAIPA was produced for the local market.

History

Designed by Bertone Xantia has some unique features such as a cornering kinematic self steering rear axle, a hydropneumatic suspension and from 1998 the first common-rail diesel engine at Citroën. The kinematic self steering rear axle was first used for the Citroen ZX and installed in the aftermath of all Citroën with drawn trailing arms on the rear axle (including Saxo, Xsara ). The Xantia was equipped depending on the model either with the tried and true hydro pneumatic or with their development, the Hydractive II suspension, with two different spring constants and electronic control. In this system, an additional spring ball is installed for each axis, which is switched off to the hardening of the suspension during cornering, acceleration and deceleration.

The hydro- pneumatic been added from the 1994 model year, with an anti- Absink system, which with the engine behind the height correctors blocked the return of the suspension and thus guaranteed a consistent ride height also with prolonged standstill. Since the brake pressure of the rear brake is supplied at Citroen hydropneumatic of the rear suspension ( load-dependent braking effect ), had an additional pressure accumulator in the region of the rear axle are integrated into the system to ensure the braking function even when the anti- Absink system.

Facelift

In January 1998, the Xantia has been slightly revised. In addition to revised headlights and taillights, the modification also affected a revised grille, bumper and a revised interior. More were mainly structural body reinforcements.

The end of 1998 a new generation of diesel engines has been integrated in the vehicles, which were allocated a direct injection ( HDI). The two engines had 2.0 liters and made 90 or 109 hp.

Internally, this version was also called Xantia X2.

Citroën Xantia Break (1998-2001)

In the fall of 2001, the production of the Xantia in France was terminated. In Iran, he was still in production until September 2010 for the local market. The successor C5 already appeared in spring 2001.

The Xantia was (along with the XM ) the last Citroën model with central hydraulic system, through which the oil pressure supply of braking force control, power-assisted steering and suspension has been realized.

Specifications

Xantia Activa

The Xantia Activa was the (technical) of the Xantia top model series from Citroën. The idea was the end of 1994, were built between spring 1995 and autumn 2001, just over 18,000.

Besides Hydractive II Activa still called Active Chassis stabilization (AFS ) had, in the French SC.CAR = systems Citroën de Contrôle Actif you Roulis, which was the first series- offered active anti-roll bar in the automotive industry. With this system, the lateral inclination control is reduced by mechanical with hydraulic cylinders, which act upon the anti-roll bars, at a minimum ( 0.2 ° to 1 °). This technique allows ( according to factory specification ) for optimal grip roadway lateral accelerations up to 1.2 g and provides while still being an exceptionally high ride comfort and thus secure road holding. Compared to the standard models, the Activa seats with reinforced side panels, which also are pneumatically adjustable in the first series ( X1). This more lateral support is guaranteed.

How AFS / SC.CAR: Both ( relatively thick ) cross- stabilizers (front 28 mm, rear 25 mm diameter) are diagonally opposite (front - left and rear - right ) via a differential hydraulic cylinders with the check rails.

These cylinders are connected to a regulator valve, which is operated directly from the front wishbones means of push rods via a spring - lever mechanism. Occurring rolling moment ( side slope ) has the opposite effect on the wishbone - a wheel deflects, the other springs from. The tilt corrector - - This causes the regulator valve is controlled by the push rods in a direction towards from its rest position ( straight ahead ) pulled / pushed, making it sets a the rolling torque proportional pressure in the hydraulic cylinders.

The hydraulic cylinder thereby change their length and thus counteract the strain of the anti-roll bar. In the horizontal, which curve driving possible up to 0.6 g lateral acceleration with -0.2 to 0.5 ° lateral inclination " push" the body through the cross stabilizer bars to the roll moment acting again. From 0.6 g of lateral acceleration, the actuating cylinder to arrive at their stop, from here, the Xantia Activa up to 1 ° tends to reach the curve boundary region in the curve, which corresponds to the value of a good sports car with correspondingly tighter coordination.

Since this active roll stabilizer operates independently of the Hydractive II chassis, the suspension travel remains even in extreme cornering obtained almost entirely, thus ensuring a much better road in these situations than the conventional wheel suspension can. On straight sections of a solenoid valve is actuated via the control unit of the Hydractive suspension also that switches an additional spring ball in the hydraulic control circuit of the actuator cylinder. This, on the one hand, the rigidity of the hard- tuned stabilizer bars "virtually" mitigated by the gas filling of spring ball to reduce copying movements and thus to increase the comfort. It also acts through its memory effect dampening effect on the control loop so that no unwanted vibrations usually occur when driving straight ahead through suspension caused momentary actuation of the tilt corrector.

There was the Xantia Activa with following motors (not available in every country ): Gasoline engine: 2.0i 16V ( 132 hp ), 2.0i 16V ( 150 hp), 2.0i Turbo ct (147 hp), 3.0i V6 ( 190 hp ) Diesel: 2.1 TD (109 hp), 2.0 HDi (109 bhp).

A Activa is the original rear spoiler, the Venise - alloy wheels, painted in the body color bumpers to (for models first series), the black headliner ( depending on the year ), special front seats with pronounced side bolsters and the Activa logo rather than the cubic capacity indication on the doors recognize.

The Swedish magazine Teknikens Värld had Xantia Activa 1999 tested in the V6 version and, in the result clearly favors him in handling the standardized change test, the elk test. He keeps up to date (as of August 2012) the first place in the ranking of all Elchtests the past few years before Porsche 996/997 and Audi R8.

Security

From model year 1994, a driver's airbag was fitted as standard, from model year 1996, also a passenger airbag. With the revision in early 1998 the Xantia was also equipped with two side airbags in the backrests of the front seats and received structural body reinforcements. At the castles of the front seatbelts pyrotechnic belt tensioners were used. All Xantia were delivered with a 3 -channel ABS.
