Ciudad de Murcia

Ciudad de Murcia was a Spanish football club from the city of Murcia. The club was founded in 1999 was moved in summer 2007 to Granada, as the FC Granada 74 took the place of the Segunda División clubs.

History

In summer 1999, Ciudad de Murcia Quique Pina, a former player of the biggest clubs in the city, Real Murcia was founded. Thanks influential friends and good business partners managed to lead the club quickly into professional football. Already in 2000 /01 reached the summit in the Segunda División B, which is the third Spanish league. Only two years later, in the season 2003/ 04 succeeded for Ciudad de Murcia for the first time the jump in the Segunda División.

The first two seasons finished in 18th place from Ciudad each and could thus only just avoided relegation to the third division. But already in the third year they finished fourth. Only on the final day, the Murcianer were defeated in the distance duel later promoted Levante UD. In the season 2006/ 07 they were also on the fourth place at the end of the season, but at a considerable distance to city rivals Real Murcia who rose instead.

In June 2007 it was announced that an investor from Granada took over the club, and renamed him neugründete as FC Granada 74, Granada. This case is that of the English club FC Wimbledon comparable, which was changed to Milton Keynes Dons. All players who were in Ciudad under contract, were given the opportunity to join the new club or the club to change a free transfer.

In contrast to the first team, the B team sparked by new investor and became the first team in the Liga Tercera refounded as CA Ciudad de Lorqui. This association increased in 2008 to Segunda División in the B and was renamed to FC Atlético Ciudad. Since the descent of the FC Granada 74 in Tercera División at the end of the 2008/ 09 thus plays the former second team a league higher than an investor team.

Stadium

Ciudad de Murcia played in the stadium La Condomina, which has a capacity of 16,800 spectators. The stadium was inaugurated on 25 December 1924. As the largest club in town Real Murcia in a new stadium, the Estadio Nueva Condomina, pulled and Ciudad this can no longer use, it was decided to demolish the stadium and replace it with a sports center.
