Ciudad Guzmán is the capital of Municipalities Zapotlán el Grande in the Mexican state of Jalisco. Ciudad Guzmán is located 124 km south of Guadalajara on the highway to Colima.

For a long time the city was called Zapotlán, but was renamed in 1788 to better distinguish it from other places of the same name in Zapotlán el Grande and 1856 in honor of General in Ciudad Guzmán Guzmán Gordiano. As a protest against the replacement of the place name in Nahuatl against a Spanish name, call today for many long-established citizens their place Zapotlán. Officially Zapotlán el Grande is performed for the entire municipality, while Ciudad Guzmán referred only to the capital.
