Clapham North tube station

Clapham North is an underground station of the London Underground in the London Borough of Lambeth. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 2 at the junction of Clapham Road, Clapham High Street and Bedford Road. Here trains to the Northern Line. In 2011, 5.83 million passengers used the station. About a hundred meters away is the Clapham High Street railway station on the South London Line, a part of the network of London Overground.

The station was opened on June 3, 1900 by the City and South London Railway under the name Clapham Road, as part of the extension to Clapham Common. In the wake of far-reaching alterations along the entire line, the station was closed on 28 November 1923 to 1 December 1924. At that time we also replaced the original station building with a new building by the architect Charles Holden. On September 13, 1926, the station was given its present name.

Next Clapham Common Clapham North is the only remaining station tube type which has a central platform; a design that was still widespread at the beginning of the 20th century along the Northern Line. Also, Clapham North is one of eight stations of the London Underground, which were expanded into an air raid shelter during the Second World War.
