Clarence Chamberlin

Clarence Duncan Chamberlin ( born November 11, 1893 in Denison, Iowa, † October 30, 1976 in Shelton, Connecticut) was an American aviator. He was the first man to fly across the Atlantic to Germany together with a passenger, Charles A. Levine, non-stop from New York.

Life and work

The plane, a Bellanca WB2 named Columbia, launched on June 4, 1927 in New York ( Roosevelt Field, Long Iceland ) and landed on June 6, initially in Eisleben in Halle ( Saale). For the distance of 3911 statute miles ( 6294 km ) it took about 43 hours. He then continued his flight with the aim Berlin and landed in blade near Cottbus. The next day he reached his destination, the airport Berlin -Tempelhof with a stopover in Cottbus.
