The predatory catfish ( Clarias ) are the main species in the family of the branchial sac catfish ( Clariidae ) dar. This genus comprises 54 species and is home to the only in the waters of Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. As some members of this genus can achieve quite impressive sizes of over one meter grow quickly, are very fertile and are also found in waters numerous non optimal oxygen conditions, they are in many countries as an important meat suppliers popular and economically important for aquaculture and the fisheries. Predatory catfish are, as the name suggests, all predators that feed primarily on fish. The flat body of the rapacious catfish is uniformly colored dark gray to black or brown mud in most species. The dorsal fin is almost the whole body overlaying Flossensaum without prominent first dorsal fin spine. The pectoral fin spine, however, are very strong.
