Claudio Barrientos

Claudio Barrientos ( born November 10, 1936 in Osomo, Chile; † 7 May 1982) was a Chilean boxer.

Career

Barrientos participated as representatives of Chilean bantamweight at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, winning a bronze medal. In the quarterfinals, he beat the Brazilian Eder Jofre, but then lost in the semifinals against the South Koreans Soon- Chun Song, who in turn lost the final against Wolfgang Behrendt.

In 1959 he began a brief and unsuccessful professional career in which he won only three of eleven fights. On 15 July 1960 there came a rematch of the Olympic quarter-final against Eder Jofre, Barrientos lost by knockout in the eighth round. In September 1960, he was defeated in a battle for the Chilean bantamweight championship.
