Claus de Werve

Claus de Werve (* 1380 in Haarlem, † 1439 in Dijon ) was a Dutch sculptor.

Werve was a pupil and nephew of Claus Sluter, whom he succeeded in 1404 as court sculptor of the Dukes of Burgundy. Werve to the tomb of Duke Philip II the Bold in Dijon have completed 1410. He then received an order for a tomb for Duke John the Fearless, but he never started working on it. Werves style was based on Sluter realism.
