Clay Shirky

Clay Shirky (born 1964 ) is an American speaker, author and consultant on Internet. He teaches New Media as an assistant professor in the framework of the Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University. His teaching includes, among other things, the effects of network topologies of social networks and the question of how the Internet human relations, communication, and society is changing.

Shirky's columns and articles have been published in the Harvard Business Review and Wired magazine, among others, in Business 2.0, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal. On 3 April 2008, Shirky occurred in the Colbert Report.

In its advisory activities, Shirky focused on the rising importance of decentralized technologies such as peer -to-peer, web services, and wireless networks that represent alternatives to the client-server infrastructure that characterizes the World Wide Web. His clients include Nokia, the Library of Congress and the BBC.
