Clement Meadmore

Clement Lyon Meadmore ( born February 9, 1929 in Melbourne, Australia, † April 19, 2005 in New York, USA ) was an Australian- American sculptor.

Life and work

Clement Meadmore studied aeronautical engineering and then industrial design at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne. After these degrees he studied for several years with furniture design. During the 1950s, he created his first metal sculptures and in the period from 1954 to 1962 he held several solo exhibitions of his works in Melbourne and Sydney.

In 1963 he moved to New York and Meadmore became an American nationality. Meadmore was known for his monumental sculptures in public spaces, mostly from COR- TEN steel and aluminum, which he mixed various elements of Abstract Expressionism and Minimalism. Meadmore loves jazz music, which he brought in the titles of many works to express how " reef " (1996), " Round Midnight " (1996), " Stormy Weather " (1997), "Night and Day" (1979) and " Perdido " (1978).

Meadmore lived and worked in Manhattan and died in 2005 from the effects of Parkinson 's disease. His work is in numerous places in the U.S. and in Australia.
