Erlenblättrige Zimterle ( Clethra alnifolia )

The Zimterlen or certificates preparers ( Clethra ) are a genus of the family bills Creator plants ( Clethraceae ).

Description

The Zimterlen are some evergreen, some deciduous trees or shrubs. Buds, twigs, leaf blades, inflorescences and flowers are loosely to densely hairy with predominantly star-shaped hairs. The change-constant leaves are in tufts at the ends of branches. The leaves are simple ( undivided ) with usually serrated, partly smooth margin. There are no stipules present.

The terminal racemose inflorescences are usually many flowered and elongated; They are available individually or in small groups. The hermaphrodite flowers are radial symmetry. There are 5 sepals and 5 petals present. The sepals overlap. The petals are free or fused at the base; they are usually white. The 10 stamens are arranged in two circles; they are usually adherent to the base of the petals. The stamens are more or less V-shaped and curved inwardly. Three carpels are fused into a superior ovaries. The ovary is nearly spherical, but flattened at the base style. Each of the three chambers of the ovary contains 20-40 ovules. There is a stylus available, ending at the top in a usually three-lobed or three-column scar. Are formed capsule fruits. These are hemispherical to spherical, dreikammerig and hairy. The seeds have a thin skin with a net-like embossing.

Dissemination

The representatives of the genus are widespread in America and Southeast Asia in the tropical to warm temperate zones; a species is native to the island of Madeira in the Atlantic. A fossil representatives of this genus from Baltic amber ( Eocene, age about 40 to 50 million years ago ) is very similar to the latter type.
