Cliff Britton

Clifford Samuel Britton ( born August 29, 1909 in Bristol, † December 1, 1975 ) was an English footballer and football coach.

Life and career

Playing career

As a player, Britton began his professional career in 1928 at the Bristol Rovers and moved to Everton in 1930. Initially, only the second team, he was one of the most important players of the 1933 FA Cup triumph of the Toffees. He was one of the great playmakers of this era. His last league game he played on April 15, 1939 against Preston North End. Internationally, he played nine times for the English national football team

Coaching career

After the Second World War was Britton coach from FC Burnley. After the rise and an FA Cup final in 1948, he became coach of FC Everton. As a coach, the Toffees he spent £ 28,000 for new players, which still did not make the success greater. The team got off. 1956, following unsuccessful attempts to rise again, he moved to Preston North End. After very successful years and some "almost- championship ", he also had to stay with this team.
