Climate Alliance

The Climate Alliance of European Cities with Indigenous Rainforest Peoples / Alianza del Clima eV is a company founded in 1990 European network of cities, towns and counties who are committed to protecting the global climate. The more than 1,600 member municipalities from 24 European countries are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions at a local level. Your allies are the indigenous peoples of the rainforests. The indigenous partners are represented by the COICA, the Coordination of Indigenous Organizations of the nine countries bordering the Amazon basin.

By joining the Climate Alliance, the cities and municipalities voluntarily commit

  • To reduce CO2 emissions by ten per cent every five years
  • To halve per capita emissions at the latest by 2030 (base year 1990)
  • For the protection of tropical rainforests by waiving tropical timber use
  • In support of the indigenous partner projects and initiatives.

Cornerstone of municipal climate protection, energy savings and energy efficiency, using renewable energy sources and climate-friendly mobility. The Climate Alliance advises cities and municipalities in the implementation of climate protection strategies and the development of recognized tools for the uniform recording of energy consumption and CO2 emissions. In addition, the Climate Alliance participated in projects and offers campaigns aimed at different target groups. In addition to its own activities, the Climate Alliance is a partner of other campaigns and occurs beyond politically in action. At the national, European and international level, it is committed to the concerns of engaged in climate European cities and towns, and supports indigenous peoples' organizations.

The European branch of the Climate Alliance is based in Frankfurt am Main. There, the Climate Alliance is coordinated in Germany. In Italy, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia and Hungary are national coordination sites.
