Symbolism

The Colombian coat of arms consists of three horizontal fields, above which is a flightless ready condor.

The coat of arms is on the left and right, supplemented by two flags in the colors yellow - blue-red and golden rod tip, which are gathered toward the lower end of the shield down.

  • The Condor stands for freedom. He is head-on, to see with wings outstretched and looking to the right. In the beak he wears a laurel wreath, including a banner in black lettering on a gold background with the motto " Libertad y Orden " (Spanish for " freedom and order " ) to see.
  • In the upper third of the crest, on a blue background, is a golden pomegranate, reminiscent of Nueva Granada - as the former name of the region. Left and right of the golden pomegranate are golden horns - left a horn, filled with gold & silver coins and a right horn, filled with tropical fruits. This part represents the wealth and opulence of the country.
  • In the second period on a silver background, a red Phrygian cap (Spanish for "el gorro frigio " ) is plugged into a golden lance tip, which stands for republicanism.
  • In the last third, two large ships are with Sails on the two oceans that surround Columbia ( Pacific and Caribbean as by sea of the Atlantic ). The hoisted sails symbolize trade between Colombia and the rest of the world.
