Coat of arms of Ontario

The coat of arms of Ontario was the Canadian province of Ontario awarded by Queen Victoria in 1868. 1909 King Edward VII added the crest to crest and plate holder.

The coat of arms also appears on the flag of Ontario. It shows on a green background three golden maple leaves from a stalk, the symbol of Canada. In the main silver shield a red St. George's Cross, the symbol of England. About the shield floats a golden - green Helmwulst on which intervenes American Black Bear. Supporters are in black and erect a moose and a deer.

The motto is Ut incepit Fidelis sic permanet ( " She started loyal and will remain loyal" ). This is an indication of the Loyalists who fled during and after the American Revolutionary War and settled in Ontario, as it was still part of Quebec.
