Coat of arms of the Northwest Territories

The coat of arms of the Northwest Territories was awarded the Northwest Territories in Canada by Queen Elizabeth II on 7 February 1957.

The coat of arms is by wave cut diagonally right shared by red and green, above the silver head of a polar fox, bottom dotted with golden ingot; in divided by zigzag cut silver shield head a blue wave beams.

Red stands for the tundra in the north, green for the forested regions in the south; the dividing line symbolizes the tree line. The gold bars in the green field and the head of an arctic fox in the red box represent minerals and furs, the basis of the wealth of the region. The head of the shield represents the Northwest Passage through the polar pack ice dar.

The crest above the silver - red Helmwulst consists of a wind rose (symbol of the magnetic North Pole ), flanked by two outward golden narwhals.
