Coat of arms of Saxony-Anhalt

The coat of arms of Saxony-Anhalt is next to the national flag, the national coat of arms and the national seal of the emblem of the State of Saxony- Anhalt. It was introduced by the Law on Arms, National Flags and Seal on 29 January 1991.

Coat of Arms Description

The official description of the coat of arms is:

" The country's coat of arms shows the divided shield, nine times divided up, the colors gold over black, diagonally right covered with a green diamond ring and left - in the amount of the top five divisions - in silver free field a black eagle with golden arms and red tongue. The lower panel shows a silver border on a black bear schwarzgefugten red battlements wall with the gate open. "

Even if the law mentioned above was replaced in the meantime by the emblem Act of 2 June 1998, it shall continue unchanged.

Importance

The coat of arms shows in the upper field the Saxon rue wreath in the upper left open field ( from the perspective of the viewer's right) the Prussian eagle, which symbolizes the former Prussian province of Saxony. In the lower field you will find the border askanischen bear on a wall as a symbol of the former Free State of Anhalt.

History

From 1948 until its dissolution in 1952, the arms of the province of Saxony- Anhalt shows the Saxon shield provided with ears (agriculture) and hammer and chisel (mining). In contrast to the coat of arms of the Prussian province of Saxony, the order of horizontal stripes with the color black begins. After the founding of the State of Saxony- Anhalt 1990, a new coat of arms was designed. It shows the coat of arms of the Prussian province of Saxony Saxon diamond ring and the ( uncrowned ) Prussian eagle in the upper ( heraldic ) left corner. The Saxony-Anhalt coat of arms is therefore the only coat of arms of a German Land, which contains a direct reference to Prussia. In addition, there is the coat of arms symbol of the bear back to a wall as a sign of the former principality of Anhalt- Bernburg and the Free State of Anhalt, on the sign foot.

Country icon

Since the country's coat of arms may be used only with permission and only from official sources, the state government has designed a freely usable state symbol. It is the coat of arms in a simplified form dar. on the black and yellow stripes behind the diamond ring is omitted. The background here is shown in white, the diamond ring protrudes into the lower part of coat of arms with the bear inside. On a distinction between upper and lower field, as well as a delineation of the field of the Prussian eagle is also waived. Filed is the symbol of the national colors.
