Occurrence

The animals come into mutually isolated colonies locally ago from southwest France east to Japan. In German-speaking countries they are found only in a few limited points in Austria and Switzerland. They are preferably found on bog and marsh meadows, but also occasionally in dry places and on warmer Rivervale - Molinia meadows.

Way of life

The moths live in a generation annually from mid June to mid August. They fly in the sun low and slow over meadows and resting with wings closed. The females lay eggs on the stems of forage crops. The young caterpillars hibernate. As the caterpillar food plants are mainly used for pipe grasses ( Molinia ), cotton grass ( Eriophorum ) or sedge ( Carex panicea ). Pupation takes place in a Stürzpuppe.
