Coetan Arthur

The Arthur's Quoit, also known as Coetan Arthur, is an approximately 5,000 year old portal grave dating from the Neolithic period and is located near the local St David's in Pembrokeshire in Wales. Plants of this type are called in Cornwall and Wales as a Quoit.

Location

The Quoit is located at the St David 's Head near the sea. The location with a panoramic view is typical of portal tombs of this kind, some researchers believe that by doing a certain area has been claimed and the community to come into closer relationship with the area. Construction

The collapsed grave today consists of a 1.5 m high breaking stone, supporting a large capstone with 5.9 m long and 2.6 m wide. The other end of the cap stone is located directly on the ground. Two other megaliths, probably used to wear the cover plate are overturned next to the capstone. The chamber is partially below the ground level. Around the chamber you can still find remnants of a landfill because of Arthur's Quoit all appearances like other portal tombs of this type was once covered by a mound. The supporting stones and the cover plate were then inside the plant. Remains of access are located west of the chamber.
