Coghinas

Lower reaches of the Coghinas by the flood plain just before the mouth

The Coghinas is 116 km long, the most important river in the north of Sardinia and the third longest on the island.

The Coghinas rises near Ploaghe in the Alá mountains and passes through the province of Sassari and the eponymous place before it joins near the village of Valle Doria in the Gulf of Asinara. There, he forms the lagoon La Perla Blu.

The middle reaches formed by the Limbaraschlucht is dammed at the narrowness of Muzzone and forms the lying in Oschiri Coghinas lake. Built in 1927, the dam provides for a capacity of 254 million cubic meters of the lake water. In the lower reaches is the Lago di Castel Doria, another but smaller reservoir. The largest town on the river is Viddalba.
