History

Migrations in the early 18th century brought Mande - riders and their Malame from the north and Akan peoples from the east. Together with the indigenous Ndenyi, they were amalgamated into a people with a common language and culture. In the mid-18th century it was a small community of mercenaries Tschokossi to assist the chiefs of the Gonja and Mamprusi in present-day Ghana.

The community consisted of Mandereitern and learned, armed with muskets Akan infantrymen and some Muslim amulet manufacturers. These groups provided the basis for a society which was divided into three estates: the nobility, common and Muslims.
