Coleraine

Coleraine (Irish Cúil Raithin ) is a town in County Londonderry in Northern Ireland.

Coleraine is situated on the River Bann near the confluence with the North Channel (English Channel North ). The tourist slogan is Capital of the Causeway Coast.

The city has 24 042 inhabitants (2001) and is the administrative seat of the district (English borough ) Coleraine with 56,800 inhabitants (2007 ). Only 50 Intl. from Belfast, Derry 30 and 25 of Ballymena. Most of the inhabitants are Protestants.

Coleraine is connected by railway lines to Belfast, Derry and Portrush.

The University was founded as the New University of Ulster, Coleraine on the outskirts of Coleraine merged in 1984 with Ulster Polytechnic, Jordanstown and has since been the administrative center of the University of Ulster. The campus Coleraine is with 6000 students ( 1999), the largest of the four university sites. On the site there is a train stop along the route Coleraine - Portrush since 1976 and also the Riverside Theatre.
