Colfax is a small town and the administrative seat of Grant Parish in the U.S. state of Louisiana, founded in 1869. In 2000 Cofax had 1,659 inhabitants; the official estimate is that the population remained relatively stable in 2009 with 1,668.
The name comes from the Vice President of the United States, Schuyler Colfax, back.
On April 13, 1873, the Colfax Massacre took place here. Armed racist whites overpowered freed slaves and black vigilantes and killed the prisoners. White prisoners were not injured. It should have been murdered 62-81 people sein.Noch to 1877 troops of the Federal therefore were stationed here.
