Colin Clive

Colin Clive ( born January 20, 1900 St. Malo, France, † June 25, 1937 in Hollywood, California, USA; actually Colin Glenn Clive - Greig ) was a British theater and film actor.

Life

Clive was born as the son of an English colonel in France. After his career was ended by a knee injury in the military, he began to play theater. In 1927, he starred in Show Boat with. His role in Journey's End, directed by James Whale repeated Clive in the film version in 1930, resulted in the Whale also directed. Its still best-known film is Frankenstein from the year 1931. He repeated the role of the scientist Frankenstein 1935 Bride of Frankenstein. In the film adaptation of the novel Jane Eyre 1934 he was next to Virginia Bruce to be seen as Rochester. The actor was distantly related to Robert Clive and played in the 1935 biographical film battle to India, where Ronald Colman represented the winner of the Battle of Plassey, a minor role.

Colin Clive died in 1937 at the age of 37 from tuberculosis. He is supposed to be life long been an alcoholic. From 1929 until his death he was married to actress Jeanne de Casalis.
