The Collmberg ( Slavic name; see Sorbian CHOLM - " hill, knoll " ) is the highest peak in the district of North Saxony. He was called up to the 19th century and Spielberg. Another former name is Oschatzer Collm. It is 312 meters above sea level high and represents a landmark in Wermsdorfer forest, 6 km west of Oschatz near the village Collm.

On the mountain a medieval ramparts is ( archaeological dating ca 900/930 ), whose history lacks any traditions. In addition to a ring wall with a diameter of 200 meters to 100 meters, which surrounds the entire dome, located at the western mountainside other three walls.

Another ramparts, the old castle, is situated between Collm and Hubertusburg.

The Collmberg was not, as is often claimed, the site of Meissen state parliament in 1198 ( " country thing "), but it was the 1000 -year-old linden tree in the village Collm that lies at its southern slope.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the reign of King Frederick Augustus I of the mountain in 1823 was chosen as the site of a national monument, where a bust of the king should be placed. As the king of the real purpose of the construction, namely the homage of his person was known, he refused.

1827, after the death of the king, an association constituted for the erection of a monument, which collected donations nationwide. As a location for the 1828 created by Ernst Rietschel monument, the royal capital of Dresden was selected.
