The Comet River is a river in the east of the Australian state of Queensland.

Name

The Comet River named Ludwig Leichhardt from Prussia on his first expedition to Australia a comet he had seen on December 23, 1844 Australia.

Geography

River

The river originates in the Expedition Range north of the settlement Purbrook and Nuga Nuga National Park - from the Brown River and the Clematis Creek. It flows to the north and crosses under the Carnarvon Developmental Road and the Dawson Highway at their intersection in the small town of Rolleston. In the small town of Comet passes under the Comet River the Capricorn Highway and is few kilometers to the north along with the NogoA River the Mackenzie River.

The Comet Weir River is the main dam on the river. End of the 1990s should be a big reservoir on the Comet River arise, but it never came.
